When you look at the tuition costs and even living costs one will have to pay to go to college, many times young students and their families try and weigh the pros and cons of each move. On the one hand you could save $40,000 and be uneducated or cough up that amount (either by bank assistance) or working to raise that money and being considered “educated.”
For anyone that is struggling to make a decision, I believe this question I have for you will give you the answer you need. The answer you will give me on the following question, will help you understand if you really want to have a college education just for the sake of it: do you see all these millennials that are protesting on the streets to be very educated? What is your take? If you had to judge a person just on that action, would you put that person in the educated or uneducated category. I ain’t trying to say something here…of wait I am!
The problem is, there is discrimination for people that aren’t educated and don’t have a college degree. Here’s my response to that: will those children that actually go to college learn that much more they didn’t know before and most importantly, how will that help them with their career life? I know an education isn’t all about getting a job after that. But it is part of it. So in other words, why do you need to debt yourself with $40,000 or more if you are planning to work at McDonald’s for the rest of your life? You think they don’t employ people with no college education? So what I’m saying is, you need to be realistic about what you are planning to do after college. Partying and having a good is fine, but that ends very soon and then you are looking where you’ll get your next meal from. Unless you feel okay with yourself ending up on food stamps (I’m not kidding) I’d ask you all young people out there that have all the future ahead of them, to get their heads out of their tails and think in a mature way for once. Your parents won’t fund your parties forever and if they do, they are stupid.
What ever happened to trades? I personally know more millionaire people involved in trades (like plumbers or roofers) than historians or arts people. How many arts educated people do you know that are millionaires because of that? How much money you will make is purely dependent on how much you produce and how much is the value of that. You can learn all you want about Chinese culture and history, but no one will pay you big sums of money for that knowledge. On top of that, you probably will need to be forever defendant on the government for a job. Why would you want to put yourself in a prison cell? Don’t you know a college education (the way most people mean it today) is most likely going to get you trapped? College education, isn’t going on to study medicine after pre-med or going to study Law or become an Engineer. College education means going into study liberal arts for no purpose at all (no job to follow it.) That is at least what people consider to be a college education. I mean if you really are that stupid to throw $40,000 or more for a piece of paper that means nothing, well then…you’re stupid.
Another thing you young kids need to understand is that you will never get rich from a job. That is of course a different story, but having the mentality: I’ll go to college to get a good job, isn’t just naive but idiotic. The only reason the employer is giving you a job, is because you can bring in more wealth to the business or company. What ever happened to small local businesses? Believe me, a plumber that owns the company in a small 40K population city, is going to make a lot more money than your average academic. You don’t believe me? Just look at statistics.
Now, not to get myself misunderstood: I am not saying don’t get an education. That would be more stupid than throwing away $40,000. What I am saying is make sure whatever you study, helps you improve your financial situation. If that is by getting a job at first and then starting your own business, then do that. If it is just sticking to a job for the rest of your life (and you like that) then you can do that. But make sure there is a reason for studying and spending all that money. That is all I’m saying. Don’t go to study just because Beth did so. Beth probably has a reason for studying in college and wants to do something with that. If you want to party, you don’t need to pay $40,000.
I don’t want to come across as one of those ignorant people that advice children today to not get educated and avoid going to college. In most cases, college will be beneficial for you. What I am saying however, is don’t be a sheep and understand why you are doing what you are doing. Have a plan for that. For example; “I will go and study History because I want to use it as a stepping stone to get into such research or this other field” or “I would love to be a History teacher and that is why I’m doing this.”
Hopefully you got something from this slightly aggressive article. Any attacks and swearing aren’t personal of course. I just want you to don’t be the sheep that get slaughtered at the end of the story. The problem there is a college debt problem, is because people just study for the sake of it, without planning on getting a job after they graduate (or start their own business.)
Feel free to ask questions. As always, I welcome you to the upcoming posts. Stay tuned!
